Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic therapy, which is also known as water or pool therapy, offers patients a unique alternative to land-based rehabilitation programs. The buoyancy and hydrostatic pressure of water provide natural resistance that allows for the constructive movement of muscles with less strain.
At CHRISTUS St. John Hospital, licensed therapists assist patients in developing individualized aquatic therapy programs designed to improve strength, range of motion and overall function.
- Who We Treat: People of every age can benefit from the rehabilitative effects of aquatic therapy. Conditions commonly treated at our center include musculoskeletal disorders, chronic muscle pain, arthritis, athletic injuries, postsurgical pain and joint replacement recovery.
- Treatment Programs: After an initial evaluation, our therapist will formulate a personalized program for each patient. Progress is monitored as a patient builds endurance and restores balance through exercises performed in the warm aquatic environment. Once a patient has mastered physical activities with limited pain, he or she may then progress to land-based training programs.
- Our Facility: Our Aquatic Center features a 20’ by 30’ heated indoor pool. All therapy sessions are supervised by a licensed professional to ensure safety and proper technique.
